A Walk in the Park: a sequel
Sunday 15th June 2024
Hyde Park, London
Last summer, we took a walk through Hyde Park, capturing parts of the journey in our sketchbooks. We’ll be returning on June 15th for a watercolour session led by Ohn Mar Win, focusing on the newly unveiled 2025 Serpentine Summer Pavilion by Marina Tabassum and the historic Italian Gardens – a tranquil space adorned with ornate fountains, stone urns, and classical sculpture.

Join Sketchwalk London and Ohn Mar Win for an inspiring afternoon of creativity in Hyde Park - perfect for anyone who loves to sketch and wants to grow their practice in a relaxed, social atmosphere.

We’ll meet at 1pm outside the Italian Gardens Café, by the Marlborough Gate entrance to Hyde Park. After introductions, we’ll begin by exploring the formal beauty of the Italian Gardens—an elegant space with ornamental fountains, classical stonework, and symmetrical design.

We’ll ease into the session with some playful warm-up sketches and a gentle watercolour demonstration by Ohn Mar, focusing on shape, simplification, and how to use negative space to bring clarity and balance to your page.

From there, we’ll take a short walk to the 2025 Serpentine Summer Pavilion—a striking, ephemeral structure designed by celebrated Bangladeshi architect Marina Tabassum. You’ll have time to sketch the Pavilion’s bold architectural form, using flowing watercolour washes and coloured pencil details to capture its structure, texture, and contrast.

We’ll finish the afternoon with a relaxed ‘throw down’—a chance to share and celebrate everyone’s sketches—followed by a well-earned drink at the Lido Rooftop Bar (not included in ticket).
